This morning Alex is very whiny. It’s an annoying kind of whiny, too. I really can’t wait until they can express themselves in words.
And yes, someone should mark this day down so that when I’m whining about them talking nonstop, you can remind me that I was longing for that day.
I messed up the babies’ schedules yesterday so I decided to feed them this morning at 4:30. Only 5 minutes, but it seemed unfair to punish them because I goofed. So it might be a set-back, but we’ll get there eventually.
A friend of mine sent me a gift for the twins that included a double cart cover. Only Sam’s Club has a double cart. I used it for the first time yesterday, and now I want EVERY store to start using double carts. Having both kids in the front at the same time…fantastic!
Yesterday afternoon, I ran errands. With the twins. It wore me out.
- We started at Meijer. I carried Alex; Erin rode in the cart. I bought a new canvas toy basket (Erin was trying to eat the wicker one), coffee beans for Eric and baby food.
- Then to Sam’s Club. We got lots of things, and I didn’t have to carry a baby (see above). So nice!
- Then to Kroger. I put gas in the Jeep. Then we went inside. I got the rest of my list. I carried Erin, while Alex rode in the cart, flirting with everyone who looked at him. He’s my social boy, for sure.
Actually, it is amazing how much of a walking circus attraction we are when we go out. Two babies with sticky-up hair who stare and smile at people walking by. Yep…we get lots of comments and attention. One family actually stopped their shopping to flirt back to Alex. It took me a minute to realize that the talking I heard behind me was about us. Of course, they are always kind comments, but I do sometimes think, “Um…people…I can hear you, you know…”
Okay, I need to get my day started now. Happy Wednesday!

do you use a baby carrier when you carry them? or are you super woman and you just actually carry them with your arms?! if you use a baby carrier–what? i’ve been on a baby carrier quest for at least 4 yrs. and i’ve yet to find one i like. i think i’m going to try a hotsling next, but waiting for a good deal.
Kroger has double carts (gail told me this), the only problem is that they’re the ones attached to the cars, too. so…if you want both babies in front you have to push around the car. However, i will say that the car carts are very easy to maneuver.
you sound like you have lots of pep in your step today in spite of a 4:30 feeding. yay!

I also LOVE the double seat in the front! And I second faithchick – the Kroger car carts are very easy to maneuver, and it’s really nice when they both get to sit down in the car! We did that for the first time this week and besides Kayla touching Ian’s wheel and Ian hitting her, then Kayla hitting back, etc., it worked really well!!

@faithchick – Oh, how I HATE those car carts! But I may have to try them if they are double-wide.
No, I am certainly not supermom. I use a carrier. We have Infantino (from Target), and they work well. They babies seem to be comfortable, but they do tend to wear out my shoulders since the babies are hanging from me. I really want to try those Ergo carriers like Nixie got, but they are pretty expensive, too.

@trishlrich – @shannahhogue – sounds like my kids! the cars are too skinny…”his foot’s over here!” “she’s touching my wheel!” blah blah blah. we always end up with E1 walking and E2 riding in the car (can’t trust him to walk yet)…so now we have a “no car carts” rule b/c it turns into too much whining! ha! 🙂 and i was surprised at how easy they are (matt was, too, and it takes alot for mechanical things to “impress” him.)
I think i have an infantino, too–it’s from a garage sale…but, same thing…kills my shoulders. I’ve heard the best things about Ergo–maybe i’ll just have to take the plunge.

Very cool that the double carts exist! So, care to post your favorite soup recipe?

I was going to tell you about the Kroger carts but Jess beat me to it 🙂 The car carts really are pretty easy to manuver.
@faithchick – Usually my kids do great in the car but for some reason yesterday Savannah was having none of it. So she ended up in the front…that was her punishment. I don’t think she’ll both him again considering she didn’t like sitting in the front like a baby. She’s on a “I’m a big girl” kick 🙂

Oh what memories of days of shopping with kids. I don’t really get to miss them because Kayla and Ian are usually with us when we shop these days. But, I seem to be more of a push-over these days, I think!! Who would have guessed that would happen?!

@faithchick – Have you tried a Mei Tai? They’re kind of expensive, but I got one used for about $40 and I LOVE IT. I’ve tried a Hotsling (too big for me…even the small one), a ring sling (again, too big), and a Snugli (KILLED my back). The Mei Tai is amazing!! So comfy, several different ways to wear the baby, and it DOESN’T HURT!!! It ties around the shoulders AND lower back, so it distributes the weight better than anything else I’ve tried. If it’s too expensive, I think you can find a pattern to make one, if you’re so inclined.

I bet you and your little twins are just so cute when you go out on the town! 🙂
