A friend from church has asked me to chat with her middle school small group about my Journey towards Jesus on Sunday. The girls are 8th graders. The setting is totally casual. I just found out that I can be there. And now I am beginning to really ponder what I will talk about.
So, if you were asked to talk about your Journey towards Jesus to middle school girls, what topic(s) would you talk about?
(Obviously, this is just a “what do you think” post…feel free to share stories or just ideas or nothing at all. I’m just interested to see what pops into your minds when that title for a talk is given, to see how it compares to what has popped into mine, so far!)

wow! that’s cool! first thing that popped into my head was being deliberate…choosing right over wrong, choosing to go to church, etc. deliberately doing things that helped me on the path to jesus…if that makes sense.

I think I’d talk about choosing the right friends. I moved in my eighth grade year and started over with new friends. The ones I chose (purely by God’s intervention) were the nice girls who weren’t in with the popular crowd. I’ve never regretted it. Those popular girls would have been trou-ble later. I’d tell them to pick the friends they know will encourage them and lift them up, not ones that will make them feel bad about themselves or always in competition. Their self-esteems and images are fragile enough at that age.

I’d talk about surrender. Giving over our dreams to God, following Christ at all costs, even if it seems to be moving us away from what we thought our hearts wanted (away from the popular crowd or from that cute boy or from an athletic team that plays every Sunday or whatever).
