Timmy sings, random songs from down the hall. (This is his current fave.)
Alex talks, sharing every bit of his encyclopedic knowledge of Pokemon.
Erin asks, hoping for connection and a chance to go to the pool.
Megan laughs, loud and full and sometimes with a snort at the end.
There are knocks on the door of neighbors and friends come to visit.
The water swishes in the never-ending cycle of laundry and dishes.
Magnets clang where Eric hangs up my largest mixing bowls above the pantry door.
Dogs bark, high-pitched yips that signal another critter’s been sighted.
Storms rumble the promise of rain (though too often the clouds pass us by).
There’s the tck-tck-tck of the impact sprinkler, hurrying the grass’s growth before the August wedding.
And the entire symphony finally eases into silence long after bedtime should have been completed.
But that’s okay. It’s a good song anyway.
