Timmy was five months old when we moved to our property “in the middle of nowhere.” It’s been pretty obvious how he has grown and changed over the last five years, culminating in his new adventures in Kindergarten this fall. He grew, learned to walk and talk, figured out how to climb trees and keep up with the big kids. And we took pictures of every stage along the way.
But the property didn’t seem so much different. It’s changed, sure, but in much less obvious ways. We have worked on it a little at a time, but it never felt as if we made much progress. So I was surprised, after uploading pictures of the wedding, when I went back and looked at our oldest pictures–the images of the property when we first walked onto it–and compared the two. I had no idea just how much progress we’ve made.
How We Found It (2013-14)
Things Change (2015-17)
We tore down the old house.
We built a new one and got rid of the doublewide.
This Summer (2018)
And of course, we did major work to prepare for the wedding. So now, just look at the old place.
My grandpa told me once when he was visiting that it wouldn’t take us long to reclaim this place, that every year, we’d lose less ground. It seemed like a good thought at the time. But until I uploaded the pictures, I hadn’t realized just how right he was.
